Vistra Pledges $500,000 to Support Central Texas Flood Relief Efforts |
Company Extends Aid to Kerr County Communities Affected by Devastating Floods |
In the wake of catastrophic flooding that has ravaged Kerr County and Central Texas, Vistra has announced a substantial contribution to aid relief and recovery efforts.
The company is donating $500,000 to organizations actively involved in providing essential services to the affected communities.
This includes funding for the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, local nonprofits delivering critical assistance, and additional support for Vistra's longstanding Energy Aid program, which helps residents manage electricity bills during challenging times.
Vistra's President and CEO, Jim Burke, expressed deep sympathy for those impacted, stating, "Our hearts are with those experiencing tremendous loss and hardship. Texas is our home. In times of crisis, Texans come together – and we want to offer our support."
The recent floods have had a devastating impact on the region. Reports indicate that over the Fourth of July weekend in 2025, catastrophic flooding in central Texas resulted in at least 88 fatalities and left dozens missing, making it one of the deadliest U.S. floods in the past century. Among the victims were 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp, with 10 girls and one counselor still unaccounted for. Texas Governor Greg Abbott described the devastation as unprecedented during his visit to the camp. ([time.com](https://time.com/7300537/texas-flooding-how-to-help/?utm_source=openai))
In response to the disaster, several organizations are coordinating relief efforts. The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, established by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, is collecting donations for relief and rebuilding. TEXSAR, a nonprofit first responder group, has deployed over 50 volunteers and is seeking financial support. World Central Kitchen and the Salvation Army are providing meals and emotional support. GoFundMe has compiled recovery fundraisers initiated by affected locals. Austin Pets Alive! is sheltering over 150 displaced pets and is requesting donations, supplies, volunteers, and foster families. These organizations provide multiple avenues for the public to support ongoing rescue and relief efforts. ([time.com](https://time.com/7300537/texas-flooding-how-to-help/?utm_source=openai))
Vistra's contribution is part of a broader wave of support from various organizations and businesses. For instance, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country announced it had received more than $30 million in donations in response to the recent deadly floods, which ripped through Kerr County. The Kerr County Relief Fund was established on the morning of July 4, 2025. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life across the Hill Country region by connecting charitable donors with community needs. Founded in 1982, it is based in Kerrville and serves 10 counties. Additionally, the Butt family, H-E-B, and the H.E. Butt Foundation have committed $5 million in funding to nonprofits providing aid and recovery support to communities most in need. In addition, H-E-B is providing on-the-ground meals, volunteers, product, and support to impacted areas. Among this giving, $2 million will be gifted to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to support its Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. H-E-B also committed gifts to multiple nonprofits providing direct support: the American Red Cross, Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR), and the Salvation Army. Additionally, the retailer is distributing gift cards throughout impacted communities and to nonprofits such as the United Way of Concho Valley in San Angelo and school districts including Ingram ISD. Vistra's commitment underscores the spirit of solidarity and resilience that defines Texas communities. As recovery efforts continue, the combined support from corporations, nonprofits, and individuals will play a crucial role in rebuilding and healing the affected areas.
For residents in need of assistance with electricity bills, Vistra advises calling 2-1-1 and requesting "bill payment assistance" to connect with local resources. Vistra serves customers throughout Texas through its brands, including TXU Energy, Ambit Energy, 4Change Energy, TriEagle Energy, Veteran Energy, and Express Energy.
As the community embarks on the long road ahead, Vistra remains committed to supporting the Foundation’s critical efforts to help rebuild and recover. The company encourages others to join in offering hope, strength, and assistance to impacted families. |
